Within the framework of the FishEBM MED project, and more specifically the implementation of NAP+ pilot actions in Morocco, SPA/RAC is launching a call for expressions of interest for civil society organizations to contribute to the establishment of a pilot scheme for the collection, sorting and characterization of marine litter in the Fnideq region.
The requested tasks are as follows:
- Mobilize relevant stakeholders, particularly fishers, professional organizations, port authorities and local authorities;
- Establish a pilot marine litter collection system at the port of Fnideq;
- Organize awareness-raising campaigns and capacity-building activities for local stakeholders on good marine litter management practices, particularly for waste generated by fishing activities;
- Ensure the collection, sorting, characterization and temporary storage of the collected waste, using a harmonized methodology;
- Collect the technical data required to assess the pilot action, including the type, quantity and origin of the waste and the frequency of collection;
- Ensure the transfer of selected materials to the organization responsible for recovery activities;
- Document the results, lessons learned and recommendations with a view to replicating the scheme in other Moroccan and Mediterranean fishing ports.
