SPA/RAC is launching a call for consultancy to recruit an international expert to support countries in the Western and Central Mediterranean and the Adriatic (Albania, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Morocco, Tunisia and Türkiye) in updating or developing national monitoring programmes for Non-Indigenous Species (NIS), preparing validated national lists of Non-Indigenous and Invasive Alien Species (NIS/IAS), identifying their pathways of introduction, and defining priority species for monitoring.
The main objectives of this consultancy are to:
- Provide technical leadership and methodological guidance to national experts;
- Support the update or development of national monitoring programmes for NIS/IAS in line with the Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme (IMAP);
- Assist countries in preparing validated national lists of NIS/IAS and identifying their pathways of introduction;
- Identify priority species for monitoring in accordance with IMAP requirements and the Post-2020 SAPBIO;
- Ensure the quality of national deliverables and strengthen national capacities through technical support and coordination.
This consultancy is implemented under Output 3.3 of the FishEBM Med Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and jointly implemented by FAO and UNEP/MAP, with execution by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) and SPA/RAC.
The assignment will be carried out in close coordination with SPA/RAC, national experts, national focal points from the beneficiary countries, and the EcAp MED PLUS project to ensure the harmonized implementation of IMAP requirements across the Mediterranean.
