SPA/RAC co-organised the 2nd Mediterranean Posidonia Network Seminar

Summary

As member of the Mediterranean Posidonia Network (MPN) task force, SPA/RAC co-organised the 2nd MPN Seminar, held from 5 to 9 May 2025 in Hammamet, Tunisia.

The event gathered 92 experts from 16 countries, with the joint aim of restoring 100% of threatened Posidonia oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean by 2030.

This edition marked a key milestone with the validation of the MPN Roadmap—a strategic framework guiding regional conservation and restoration efforts of Posidonia oceanica as part of the implementation of the provisions of the SPA/BD Protocol, the Post-2020 SAPBIO and the Regional Action Plan for Marine Vegetation.

This seminar provided a platform for constructive discussions on advancing solutions to better preserve and restore Posidonia oceanica. Its outcomes will feed into both the upcoming update of the Mediterranean Action Plan for the conservation of marine vegetation for the period 2028 and beyond, and the MED Posidonia Meadows Flagship Initiative, under the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development.
